Yep. This blog got its thousandth hit sometime this afternoon. I never thought that would happen in a little under six weeks. Looks like I picked correctly when I chose to go with WordPress!

  1. Word. WordPress has been genius for me too. Did you come from somewhere else or start fresh?

    I started fresh. Actually, I detailed the journey I undertook to have a blog in my very first post on this site. If you are new to Apache, MySQL, and PHP, then I do NOT suggest that you try to set up your own web-log from your home computer. Even if you are running Linux, like I am, on a computer that is always on.

    @ollysk2

    Does this mean I comment on your blog now, or do I just tell readers here how wonderfully erudite you are and point them to your site from my blog links on the side? 🙂

  4. (I think it means that you’re expected to write a similar book list post. 🙂 )

  5. Now people clue me in to all this new-fangled net-speak. Sheesh…

    Okay, I’ll put up a post on that a little later tonight. Seems like a good idea. But, I don’t think my breadth of reading as of late will really commend me to the levels of intelligentsia that I used to belong to. Now-a-days, I’m just a vodka soaked programmer peddling the virtues of OSS to my clients.

    Speaking of which, one of these days I’ll get around to setting up a web-ring of all bloggers from the Seattle area. That way, maybe one of these days we can all get together and everyone can laugh at my drunken antics. Or just laugh at me, doesn’t concern me which… 🙂

  8. Thank you, Matt!

    Who else is interested in a drunken Seattle blog-a-thon? I’ll serve the liquor if someone promises to explain the multimedia capabilities of KDE, and fix the problems that I’m having. (I wouldn’t call them ‘problems’ per se, but I just don’t know how to configure everything to run the way that I want it to.) Also, free vodka shots to whoever tutors me in the KioSlaves!

  9. what KDE multimedia problems are you having?

    I personally have WAY more multimedia issues in gnome because it *sucks**ass*.

  10. The issues aren’t really that important. Somehow, MPlayer is not embedding properly into Firefox, and from time to time KPlayer will pop up to play certain streaming video feeds. I do not know why the plug-in for Firefox is behaving this way, as the first time I installed Mepis everything worked like a charm once all the codecs were set. So, as you can see, everything ~works~, it just doesn’t work exactly how I want to, and the behavior is radically different from before. Of course, I have a removable hard drive, and I’m starting to suspect that it was not properly set into its chasis correctly when I installed the second time. (BTW, NEVER install Apache, MySQL, and PHP without locking them down first! That was the reason why I had to reinstall- user stupidity.)

    Actually, I’ll send you an e-mail to your G-Mail account. I don’t have a lot of work on this computer, so I think I will just back up all the documents and source code and reinstall properly this time.

  11. […] So, after ’splaining this dealio to Inaeth, he went ahead and tagged me. What did I expect? The problem here is that I’m both a very poor reader and a very infrequent one as well. I’ve not read too many books over the course of my short life; in fact, I read precisely two books in high school: Of Mice and Men, which I read because it looked short and took an afternoon, and To Kill a Mockingbird, a book I really ended up enjoying.
